Passing of UA Local 179 Member Mark Smith
August 19, 2025
Mark Edward Smith passed away peacefully on August 18th,
2025 at the age of 65 years with his loving partner Maryann Cleary by his side.
Mark was born on September 7th, 1959 in Petrolia, Ontario. He was predeceased
by his father Glenn Edward Smith, his mother Irene Marylin Clark and his
brother Walter Lyle Smith. Mark is survived by his children Wendy (Gary)
Tribiger and Michelle (Garrett) Lee. Proud grandpa to Lee, Diamond, Jade and
Walker.
Mark grew up in Petrolia, Ontario and when he left home for
work he ventured west to Regina, Saskatchewan. Mark joined UA Local 179 and
enjoyed many years working in various areas of Canada as a Welder and Pipe
Fitter. His UA Local 179 brothers and sisters will always be known as
his extended family.
Mark’s door was always open to anyone passing through town
or needing a place to stay. He would help anyone in need and made friends
wherever he went. Mark was best known for his one of a kind laugh, some would
even say it was contagious, that put a smile on everyone’s face.
A Celebration of Life for Mark will be held at a later date.
If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a
charity of your choice in Mark’s name. Or just raise a glass at your local pub.
